Students with ADHD

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a psychiatric disorder that provokes inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsivity primarily in children. Therefore, children with ADHD symptoms are boisterous and absent-minded in nature; they tend to daydream, forget things, miss out details verbally explained to them and find it difficult to sit still. They even speak inappropriate things in sophisticated situations.

Such behavioral downsides hamper their academic performances. Children diagnosed with ADHD are at a disadvantage- they lag in studies even though they don’t willingly do it! It is ADHD that hinders them.

ADHD Section 504 Plan

To help ADHD students excel at school and gain a fair chance to compete with the average children, sincere legislations have been made. One such law is the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Laws like this exist to ensure that disabled children receive the aid from society that they require.

If your child has some disability like ADHD symptoms, Section 504 will allow the student to obtain additional assistance from school. For instance, the student can get extra time to complete exams, opportunity to answer orally in exams, approval to record lectures, help from classmates to make notes and many more facilities.

Parent’s role

If you think your child needs the ADHD Section 504 accommodation plan, then you must take immediate steps and get your child a Section 504 label. After some thorough analysis and observation, your child will be eligible for the additional assistance and the school will be legally bound to oblige and support your child in every possible way.

As a parent, you will have the right to know of your child’s progress, check related school records and even file complaints if you do not get the expected support. For more information, it is wise to refer to ADHD websites.
